What is the difference between travel and rec soccer?

Travel soccer is for the player that is ready to accelerate their skill development, and to compete at a higher level. League games are played against clubs from the surrounding area, half at home and half away. Teams are selected through tryouts. If there are enough kids at an age group, two teams will be created based on skill level so all kids can compete at the appropriate level.

How are teams chosen? When are tryouts?

Greater Chester Valley Soccer Association will be holding tryouts for its Travel Soccer Teams in the Spring of 2024.  Interested, Travel-level soccer players looking for more competition and higher-level training are encouraged to attend Travel Team Tryouts.   The tryout schedule will be posted at www.gcvsa.org website in March 2024.

How are the age groups determined?

The age groups are designated U9, U10, U11, etc., meaning under 9, under 10, under 11, etc. EPYSA has mandated that teams will use the birth year for determining the age group. Exact years and U groups are listed on the tryouts schedule.

Where do the teams play?

GCVSA travel teams participate in local leagues that have multiple divisions based on competition level for each age group. Half the league games are played on our home fields at Line Rd., the away games are generally within 30 minutes.  Most teams choose to play in tournaments during the year. Tournaments are chosen for a variety of reasons, including skill level or location. Participation in a tournament is not mandatory but it does give a player a chance to play several games in a couple days as well as to “bond” with his or her team.

How often do teams practice?

Teams typically train 2x weekly in the fall and spring, and 1x weekly in the winter.

What are the costs?

GCVSA 2022-2023 Travel Fees are  $1,255.00* and include the following base fees: (*) Club Fees include: Trainer/Coach fees, EPYS registration fees, fall league registration, field maintenance, insurance, etc.

Additional Team fees vary from $300-$400.  These include ournaments, spring registration, indoor rental time fees, referee fees. Parents that volunteer to act as team manager do not pay the team fees!

The approximate total cost is $1,700.00 and depends on the number of players, number of tournaments played, etc. Fees are broken up into several payments throughout the year

UNIFORMS: Additional cost: Players will purchase new uniform kits when they join a team. Replacement uniforms will be ordered as necessary for the team and player(s).

$150 at registration
$300 due 9/1
$300 due 10/1
$300 due 11/1

Who coaches?

GCVSA is always looking for coaches, team managers and parent assistants.  GCVSA uses a combination of paid trainers and parent coaches. The ideal coach knows soccer, is committed to their team, relates well to children, is well organized, completely fair, and totally unflappable. If you are interested or have a suggestion, please contact Peter Luzak at luzakpeter@gmail.com.
